As part of the institutionâ€™s educational programme, the cadets of the department of Electrical/ Electronics Engineering of the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA), paid an educational visit to the Energy Commision of Nigeria on Monday the 14th of April 2014. The cadets were led by Group Captain T. Badmus (Rtd) and had 18 cadets of the 300 and 400 levels under set 62/63 regular course of the NDA and accompanied by two lecturers of the department.
In his introduction, Group Captain T. Badmus said NDA is a degree awarding institution, and has educational field trip to relevant organizations, as part of the curriculum. He further said the NDA is the only institution in Nigeria that combines both military and civilian curriculum in its academics. He said the department was created in 1989 and the reason for the visit was to know what ECN activities are to sensitize the members of the public and educates its students. According to the retired captain, the military is always on the forefront and as such, the educational field trip is part of the curriculum so as to see what possible ways the NDA can collaborate with the Commission, thus the main purpose of the visit.
Responding, the DG/CEO ECN, Prof. (Engr.) E.J. Bala said he was impressed with the NDA for maintaining Electrical/Electronics Engineering as a core course in NDA. He thereafter made a power point presentation in which he discussed the mandates of the ECN, its challenges and the future focus.
After the presentation, questions were asked by participants among the cadet. The questions laid emphases on challenges ECN is facing and the way forward;Â who members of the ECN Advisory Committee are and how and what the ECN can do to discourage the present volume of generators import into the country. The NDA team also requested to open a collaboration channel with the ECN especially to be able to become part of the Advisory Committee.
The DG ECN, responded to all the questions, eliciting active, thought provoking and profitable discussions. The NDA was encouraged to follow up on the cordial relationship already started.
Before the end of the event, the DG, ECN souvenirs to the visiting team, which was received on behalf of the group, by the team leader, Grp Capt. Badmus (Rtd). The NDA team also in return, presented a plaque to the DG, ECN in appreciation of all the works he has done.
