The Honourable Minister of Science and Technology (HMST), Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu paid an unscheduled visit to Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) on 23rd February, 2016. This was in line with his familiarization tour of all the parastatals under his Ministry. With him were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. HabibaÂ Lawal and other key officers of the Ministry.
The Minister and his entourage were received by the Director General of Energy Commission of Nigeria Professor Eli Jidere Bala in his office. The DG briefed the Minister on the activities of the Commission and took him round the ECN building to assess the facilities within the Commission headquarters.
Facilities visited include the National Energy Databank project, which consists of a web portal where energy and allied data are hosted, as well as Content Development office and Systems/Applications Development office, within the ECN building. Upon inspecting the National Energy Databank (NEDB), the Minister commended the ECN for the initiative and advised on deepening of ICT facilities used in the NEDB project. He further observed the need to expand the historical scope of the data hosted, so as to both improve the ease of access by researching public and also enhance the relevance of the databank to enquirers. The HMST also took a tour of book section of the NEDB, where ECN publications were on display.
Answering questions from journalists, Dr. Onu emphasised Mr. Presidentâ€™s commitment in taking Science and Technology to greater heights in order to ensure that youths are gainfully employed, which is one of the cardinal vision of the present administration.
