The Acting CEO/Head of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Anthony I.B. Akah, mni in company of some of his Management team, paid a courtesy call on Director General, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Professor Eli Jidere Bala FNSE, FAEng, on 27th January, 2016.

According to Dr Akah, the visit was to reinforce the common objective the NERC shares with ECN which is to ensure adequate energy supply to power Mr. President’s developmental initiatives. This can only be achieved when all energy stakeholders work in partnership, sharing experience that is mutually benefiting, Dr Akah said. The visit was also in recognition of ECN as a strategic partner in moving the energy sector forward, given its policy and research experience in the Energy Sector in general including electricity. He noted that NERC and ECN had in the past jointly held workshops together in areas of common interest such as energy efficiency, rural electrification, renewable energy etc. Being cognisant of wealth of experience and research capacity in the ECN in the areas of renewable energy, electricity supply system expansion, planning and energy efficiency through demand side management, which are also important to the regulatory function of NERC, the Regulator is therefore ready to collaborate with ECN and take advantage of her experience in these regard.

  • Workshop on standards and labelling.

In rounding off Dr Akah informed the DG, ECN that the NERC is preparing a comprehensive guide for prospective investors in renewable energy-based electricity and the ECN’s experience on energy demand projection, supply systems expansion plans using international models will be found helpful, while NERC’s direct access to electricity data from their licensees will provide data to ECN in its planning and modelling activities.
