Officer Cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) paid an educational visit to the Energy Commission of Nigeria’s (ECN) on Wednesday 12th April, 2017. The visiting officer were received in the ECN Conference Room.
The reception event started at 10:45 am with the introduction of the Representative of the DG/CEO, in the person of Dr. A. M. Umar, Director Nuclear Science and Technology as well as the Management staff in attendance. They included Chief Dr. I. J. Dioha, Director Renewable Energy Department, Barr. Mrs. F. Abiodun, Director Legal Services, Dr. Mrs. Roseline Kela, Â Director Energy Management, Training and Manpower Development Department, Mr N. A. Omale, Director Special Duties, Mrs Fatume Ciroma-Zarma, Director Admin and Finance, Bar. A. Y. Elamah, Deputy Director Admin, Mr. Lawan Badaru, Deputy Director Procurement, Mrs. H.O Babatunde Gegele Deputy Director Media, Mr. A.O. Aliyu, Deputy Director EIS Department, Mr. C.D. Nnah Deputy Director Finance, Engr. F.O.Olu Deputy Director ICT.
The Coordinator of the NDA team, who led the visitors also introduced his team to include Wing Commander C.L. Wamdeo, HoD Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and the Officer Cadets who were thirty six (36) in number from the Sixty Six (66) Regular Course, all third year students of Electrical and Electronics Department of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Dr. A.M. Umar, on behalf of the DG, welcomed the visitors while apologizing for the Director General’s unavoidable absence. He went ahead to present the DG’s paper, titled “Brief on the Energy Commission of Nigeria- Promoting Sustainable Energy Development in Nigeria’’.
At the end of the paper presentation, questions were entertained from the Officer Cadets to enlighten them on the activities of ECN and other energy related matters. Thereafter, the head of the visiting team gave his vote of thanks. He particularly expressed his interest in the use of waste to generate energy; he on behalf of the Commandant requested for the ECN to partner with NDA to utilize the waste at the Academy to generate energy. He said the matter will be officially presented through the Commandant.
The Coordinator explained that the Electrical and Electronics Officer Cadets are usually exposed to some grill thrills such as this before graduation. He specially noted and expressed their delight for a better reception in ECN than in other places they had visited. He also extended their Commandant’s warm regards to the Commission.
In his response, Dr. Umar said that the request is most welcome but advised that the request be made in a letter to the DG while assuring them that the Commission will be glad to partner with them.
The Director, EMTMD, Dr. Roseline Kela in her comment observed that the visiting Officer Cadets were all male, while recalling that their request had already been discussed before now. She assured that the DG is delighted to partner with them, adding that the Commission is waiting for an MoU to be drawn up on that.
Dr. Umar made some souvenir presentations (some ECN Publications) to the Coordinator and advised them to use the materials as for references in their Institution.
Responding, the Coordinator, thanked the Commission and promised to keep the ECN Publication in any of the Libraries in the Academy. He then directed one of the Cadets to present the Commandant’s Plaque to the DG ECN and it was received by Dr. Umar, on behalf of the DG.
After a group photograph, the visiting team was taken on a tour round the 15kW Solar Mini Grid Power Station established by the Commission, to power the Headquarters Building. It was conducted by Engr Felix O. Olu, the Chairman Maintenance.
