ECN Distributes LED Bulbs to 1,000 Households in Zamfara State

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has distributed LED bulbs to 1,000 households in Zamfara state as part of its sensitization campaign on the need to conserve energy. A Principal Scientific Officer in the Commission, Mr. Tijjani Ahmad told Caliphate briefed media that Nigerians have a duty to conserve the available energy in use. He said the Commission, in partnership with some stakeholders, organized the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation at Federal Government Girls’ College Gusau and its host community so as to enlighten them on the need to conserve energy. “We provided educational material for the students and free 1,000 LED bulbs to replace the incandescent lamps in use. Mr Ahmad said it is the hope of ECN that this will generate awareness among the people to effectively use energy in their houses and also encourage others to do so.

“We have targeted up to 5,000 people within the school and its host community. Even though the students are on vacation, we met with the staff of the college and sensitized them and we handed over the educational materials to the staff and when the students resume the staff will pass the message to them. The programme was very successful,” he said. Mr. Tijjani said in the host community over 1,000 people benefited from the project adding that no household was left untouched. He said apart from the sensitization campaign the Commission also was promoting new and alternative means of sourcing energy, such as solar energy, wind, small hydro power and other renewable forms of energy source.
