ECN Holds Validation Workshop and Public Presentation of Industrial Energy Efficiency Compendium
The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), under the leadership of Director-General Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, has convened a Validation Workshop to
assess recommendations from its analysis of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) policies, regulations, and standards.
The Merit House, Maitama, Abuja event also marks the launch of the Compendium on Industrial Energy Efficiency Policies, a key resource for
promoting energy efficiency in Nigeria’s industrial sector.
The ECN conducted this assessment with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the Global Environment
Facility (GEF) project. The initiative aims to accelerate energy-efficient practices and improve environmental sustainability through Resource Efficiency and Cleaner
Production (RECP) best practices.
Dr Abdullahi emphasised the need for a coordinated policy approach, urging government agencies, private sector players, and NGOs to work together
to implement policies effectively. He noted that the Compendium will serve as a reference for decision-makers and will be updated as new policies emerge.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to global climate protocols, including the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), he highlighted energy
efficiency as a key strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving a sustainable energy transition.
Dr Abdullahi thanked the chairman of the ECN board, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, and all attendees. He commended UNIDO for supporting Nigeria’s
industrial development and urged stakeholders to leverage this opportunity to drive energy efficiency and sustainability across industries.
