Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) Supports the Presidency’s ₦10 Billion Solar Power Project

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) supports the Presidency’s ₦10 billion solar power project—a crucial step toward Nigeria’s sustainable energy future. Speaking at the ECN Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the ECN addressed public concerns and highlighted the project’s role in promoting sustainability , self-reliance, and universal energy access, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to reform Nigeria’s power sector.

This initiative tackles Nigeria’s energy debt crisis, with federal institutions owing ₦47.1 billion prior to President Tinubu’s tenure. Solar energy offers greater efficiency and protects Nigerians from rising tariffs, drawing inspiration from global models such as Kenya’s solar grids and Germany’s renewable energy industries. It will create jobs, empower entrepreneurs, and electrify rural communities, thereby easing pressure on the national grid and accelerating power sector reforms.

The ECN urges Nigerians to focus on the long-term benefits of this investment. It will ignite an energy revolution—delivering clean, affordable power while supporting President Tinubu’s goal of eliminating energy debt and positioning Nigeria as a leader in renewable energy. The ECN remains committed to realizing this transformative vision.
